Epicenter of higher education! UCV holds the largest Meeting of University Leaders in Ibero-America

  • This meeting will bring together the academic experiences of six countries, through keynote lectures that will be given by distinguished speakers.

 

On July 12 and 13, at its Trujillo campus, the Universidad César Vallejo (UCV) will host the 2nd Ibero-American Meeting of University Leaders, where renowned speakers and academic figures of international standing will share their experiences and innovative ideas with the Vallejo community in order to strengthen leadership in university education.

 

This meeting will consist of three panels: 1. “Knowledge transfer and research in Peruvian universities, future perspectives”; 2. “University quality and innovation in the strategic vision for sustainable development”; and 3. “Vision and action: innovative strategies of universities in the face of the challenges of transformation".

 

Speakers

 

  • Spain: Francesc Pedró, director of the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC). Conference: “Educational innovation in universities: international trends”.

 

  • Brazil: Carlos Gilberto Carlotti Junior, rector of the University of Sao Paulo. Conference: “Higher Education in Brazil”.

 

  • Ecuador: Cecilia Paredes Verduga, rector of the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL). Conference: “Sustainability with digital transformation and innovation”.

 

  • Colombia: Jaime Leal Afanador, rector of the National University of Distance Education (UNAD) and president of the Ibero-American Association of Distance Education (AIESAD). Conference: “Emerging challenges in higher education in the Latin American context”.

 

  • Argentina: Rodolfo De Vincenzi, rector of the Universidad Abierta Interamericana and president of the Network of Latin American and Caribbean Associations of Private Universities (REALCUP). Conference: “Challenges and opportunities for universities in the digital age”.

 

  • Uruguay: Claudio Rama Vitale, past director of IESALC – UNESCO, director of the Virtual Education Observatory of Virtual Educa and chancellor of the National University of Distance Education (UNAD) of Colombia. Conference: “Digital disruption: university 4.0 and Artificial Intelligence”.

 

  • Colombia: Harold Castilla Devoz, rector of UNIMINUTO University. Conference: “Complex educational challenges and transformative leadership”.

 

“Higher education institutions have the mission of educating and training people who live in a historical context, therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the social, economic, cultural, and other changes that are occurring at a local and global level, since they impact education and its management,” said the rector of UNIMINUTO.

 

Castilla Devoz also comments that the purpose of leadership in a scenario of university transformation is for its leaders to contribute to the generation of value for students, and therefore, also for societies from the perspective of knowledge that seeks to impact in order to transform.

 

“Leaders are called upon to rethink what teaching and learning look like in order to better attract, retain and serve students. They are also called upon to develop methods and innovatively implement a pedagogical approach that incorporates experiential learning. Furthermore, there is an urgent need to improve affordability and equity, ensuring that graduates benefit from their degrees,” he added.
